Bess Lovejoy is the author of Rest in Pieces: The Curious Fates of Famous Corpses, which has appeared in four foreign editions (with another one forthcoming), plus Northwest Know-How: Haunts, which was a regional indie bestseller. Her other non-fiction has appeared in The New York Times, The Boston Globe, The Wall Street Journal, Time, Lapham’s Quarterly, Seattle Met, The Public Domain Review, Atlas Obscura, and elsewhere. Her fiction has appeared in The Ghastling, Happy Reader, and Lady Churchill’s Rosebud Wristlet.

She has been an editor for Mental Floss, Smithsonianmag.com, the newsletter Interesting Facts, and the Schott’s Almanac series for Bloomsbury USA. She has also researched and written podcasts for iHeartMedia’s “Very Special Episodes” and other shows. She teaches classes on research and works as a freelance fact-checker.

She’s been interviewed by KUOW, the CBC, RTÉ Radio Dublin, the German television program “ZDF-History,” and an assortment of extremely nice U.S. public radio hosts. Podcast appearances have included Mo Rocca’s Mobituaries, PRI’s The Really Big Questions, Luke Burbank’s Too Beautiful to Live, and Cemetery Confessions. She has delivered talks at Death Salon, Morbid Anatomy, Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Green-Wood Cemetery, London Month of the Dead, and for Atlas Obscura.
